Guidelines for Grant Seekers

Thank you for your interest in applying for a grant from the Amelia Peabody Charitable Fund. Please read the following carefully before submitting your proposal.

Areas of Interest
The mission of the Amelia Peabody Charitable Fund is to continue the philanthropic legacy of Amelia Peabody through grants to qualified non-profit organizations in New England that further her life-long interests in health (human and animal), visual arts, land conservation and historic preservation. The Fund also makes grants in support of capital projects and purchases to social service and youth service organizations in Massachusetts only.

Exclusions
The Fund does not make unrestricted grants, immediate funding grants or multi-year funding grants. In addition, prospective grant seekers should be aware of the following list of specific areas of exclusions:

  • Individuals
  • Start-up organizations
  • Annual fund drives
  • Operating budgets
  • Salaries
  • Scholarships
  • Events, performances, film/video/radio, theatrical productions, publications, exhibits or conferences
  • Other private or grant-making foundations
  • Educational institutions
  • Organizations funded principally with tax dollars, including any state or municipal agency, public school, public library, or other public institution
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Non-profit organizations with programs outside the United States
  • Political lobbying efforts
  • Programs

Frequency of Application
If a request is not funded, grant seekers may re-apply in the second calendar year following a denial.  

If a request is funded, the trustees will not consider subsequent requests from that organization for a minimum of three years.  In the cases of a major grant as defined by the trustees (on a case-by-case basis) or a grant of any size made to a youth service organization, the trustees will not consider subsequent requests for a minimum of four years.
